There are so many things happening in our class...here you can read about some of them!
Math: Everyday in Math we have to do 3 or 4 different things: Morning Meeting:In our morning meeting we use tools such as the calendar, clocks, money, etc. to practice daily math skills. Fact Practice: This is a timed mini test of different math facts. For example: addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division Guided Practice: This is where we practice things we have already learned on our own or with our grade using a worksheet. Modeling: In modeling we revise concepts we have learned; such as measuring, weight, base ten, expanded form, etc. Math to Self: We individually practice something we need to work on, for example: practicing double digit addition. Math to Someone: Math to someone is when we work together to practice a math skill or concept. For example: fact families.
ELA: Reading to Self: We read independently for about 20 minutes. This helps us to practice our reading comprehension and stamina! Reading to Someone: In this session we read to a partner; this is a good chance for us to share books we like and practice reading aloud. Work on Writing: In this session we improve our writing skills by writing in our ELA books, typing up our writing projects or using Story Bird. Speaking Skills: We practice speeches, scripts or poems each month. Class Reading: Each grade reads a story from our Journeys textbook together and we take turns reading aloud. Grammar: We learn about different parts of grammar such as pronouns, types of sentence, contractions, etc. Listen to Audio: We listen to audio books using our laptops; we choose a book from a website and listen to the story being read. Word Work: We practice our spelling and vocabulary words.
